Best Occupations for Subclass 189

Which occupations have the best chances for a 189 visa invitation? Analysis of invitation trends and occupation demand.

Scenic Australian landscape.

Not all occupations on the Skilled Occupation List are equal when it comes to 189 visa chances. Here is which occupations currently have the best prospects.

What makes an occupation “good” for the 189?

Three factors determine your chances:

  1. The occupation must be on the MLTSSL - Only MLTSSL occupations are eligible for the 189 visa
  2. Low invitation scores - Occupations with lower cut-off scores are easier to get invited for
  3. No occupation ceiling issues - Some occupations have annual caps that fill quickly

High-demand occupations

These occupations consistently receive invitations at moderate points scores (80-90):

Engineering

ICT

Health

Trades

Highly competitive occupations

These occupations typically need 90-100 points:

  • Accountant (221111) - very popular, high competition
  • Management Consultant (224711)
  • Auditor (221213)

For these occupations, consider the 190 or 491 pathway instead. Check your occupation’s eligibility with the occupation checker.
